PRESS RELEASE

COVID-19 made space for the sort of bold action that’s difficult in normal times. Turning Point is a virtual conference and podcast series co-presented by a group of organizations that see, in the unanticipated disruption of the pandemic, a once-in-a-century opportunity.

We are at a crossroads.

We can return, along the beaten path, to life mostly as we knew it. To a province plagued by the same deep-rooted concerns it has been for too long.

Or we can use this watershed moment to forge a new path. A path uncharted, towards growing businesses, strong public services and thriving communities. In this decisive moment, we have a choice: limp to recovery or take confident strides towards reimagining our province’s future.

We know “business as usual” is over.

What comes next?

A Space for Reimagining

Upheaval interrupts our routines and breaks our conventions.

What was unimaginable one month became standard procedure the next.

The pandemic gave us an unexpected chance to consider what’s most important to us. It also highlighted problems that were there all along.

We thought about the economy, local business, our communities, relationships and society in a new light. In our sacrifices for the greater good, we affirmed our sense of community, connectedness and responsibility to each other.

Most importantly, COVID-19 showed us that what seemed intractable or even impossible isn’t. We did the unimaginable.

New Brunswick’s response to COVID-19 succeeded because of clarity, leadership and collective action from government, business, nonprofits and citizens.

Now that the pandemic's first wave has crested, we need to bring those same qualities to creating a bigger, bolder plan moving forward.

Turning Point Needs You

If you are a private sector leader, a policy-maker, an activist, an elected representative or a New Brunswicker with fresh ideas and the energy to share and realize them, Turning Point is for you.

This interactive, online dialogue is a forum to pose questions – even uncomfortable ones. It’s a venue to advance ideas, including – especially – bold ones. Streaming in English and French, each session explores a different theme, including demographics, the labour market, social services, entrepreneurship, education and more. Check out the list of themes on our Schedule page.

Following each session, we will compile one-page review documents, including key action items. We will share these with government and relevant organizations to guide action.
